Under an indefinite scope and delivery contract awarded in 2006, INTERA is providing Sandoval County with hydrologic services to determine/recommend the most appropriate and economical sources for water, improvements to existing systems, and other work necessary to ensure continued and future sources of water in the various areas of the County. INTERA has recently been supporting the County in its efforts to evaluate water availability in the Rio Puerco basin in the area around the Rio West planned development. Our efforts include monitoring the results from well tests to determine how much water is available. If an adequate water supply is found, the County may establish a "water entity" to sell the water, which would be treated by a desalinization plant built in the Rio Puerco, at wholesale prices to other municipalities in Sandoval County. Several recent articles on this project have appeared in the Albuquerque Journal and other local newspapers.
