Bob Andrews has over 30 years of experience in quantitative hydrogeology focusing on groundwater flow and contaminant transport analyses, hydrogeologic site investigations, and performance assessment modeling. Dr. Andrews is a recognized expert in the area of radioactive waste repository performance assessment and for 15 years he worked in several technical and management roles on the U.S. Department of Energy's proposed high-level radioactive waste repository at Yucca Mountain (the Yucca Mountain Project). Most recently, Dr. Andrews served as the Manager of Science Interface in support of the YMP license application where he was responsible for ensuring that the scientific and technical information developed and provided by various national laboratories and other contractors to support the post-closure safety case for the Yucca Mountain Safety Analysis Report is appropriate and meets the technical and quality expectations of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Prior to this role, he was the Performance Assessment Department Manager where he managed the technical scope, quality, schedule and resources associated with the scientific testing, modeling, and documentation required to support the post-closure safety case. The performance assessment effort managed by Dr. Andrews averaged about $90 million per year from 2001 to 2005 and required the integration of work products from a variety of contractors including Los Alamos, Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore, Sandia, Pacific Northwest, and Argonne National Laboratories, and other subcontractors. He was responsible for managing and controlling all elements of the scientific baseline program and presenting the results to external review boards and the NRC. Dr. Andrews also led the YMP Total System Performance Assessment Department from 1996 to 2001. In addition to his performance assessment expertise, he has conducted and managed hydrogeologic characterization and modeling programs in support of international radioactive waste management programs.
